The Binding of Isaac injected a hefty dose of religious symbolism and retro nostalgia into the world of roguelikes. Players have one chance to make it through the randomly generated basement and face off against the bizarre creatures that dwell within. Initially armed with just his tears, Isaac can pick up bombs and upgrades to make things easier.

Once players lose all their hearts, they lose all the upgrades that they accumulated and are brought back to the first level. It's interesting to see how deformed poor little Isaac gets as he picks up the essential power-ups in his quest for survival down in the basement. Super Meat Boy is one of the finest retro throwbacks in gaming. Anyone with nostalgia for games that promise to be "Nintendo Hard" will absolutely adore this title.

Super Meat Boy eschews the limited lives of its 8-bit forefathers and allows players to try as many times as they like. That doesn't make this title a cakewalk by any means. There's nothing more satisfying than beating a level and seeing all the many different meat boys that represent all the previous tries widdle down to one successful survivor in the results screen. Beyond following the basic idea of the game, the comic makes countless pop-culture references and has many long-established running gags and original characters.

Several new subplots, including patron gods to each Light Warrior and rival groups of adventurers, are also key plot points. To date, the completed comic has strips, not including side-comics unrelated to the main comic itself.
